(too-loo-gak): Inuktitut (the language of Inuit) word meaning raven

Ishmael Alunik, Inupiaq Elder, Inuvik, Northwest Territories, Sept.14, 2001

Inuit people, when they heard this story about Noah, one of our first grandfathers, they said they know why (the raven) never showed up. They said his favourite food is the eye of any living being. People were drowned, floating now and they said he was eating the eyes of people. That’s why he never showed up.

Genesis 8: 6-9

After forty days, Noah opened a window and sent out a raven. It did not come back, but kept flying around until the water was completely gone.
