(too-loo-gak): Inuktitut (the language of Inuit) word meaning raven

Shortly after I moved to Yellowknife in 1993, a raven tricked me. I shared this story with many people, and when I did, everyone responded with a tale of their own. In 1998, I moved to Iqaluit and started recording and writing these stories down. What I suspected was true: almost every Northerner has a raven story and is waiting for the opportunity to share it. The pursuit of these stories took me from Arctic coast to Arctic coast, from Iqaluit to Arctic Bay, over to Rankin Inlet, Inuvik, and Whitehorse. I interviewed nearly 100 people and shot hundreds of photographs. Some of these stories appear in a book called Tulugaq, which is now available for sale. Not all the stories were included in Tulugaq. Those stories are available here. Enjoy!
